Handy Work - Just one call for all your property work… Done !
Floating Floors, often timber look or sometimes a tile look, have been popular for years due to the ease of laying. For experienced trades people like us, the work is straight forward and easy in most cases to transform a room. However there are important tricks of the trade that are traps for the inexperienced. Handy Work has been called on several occasions to rectify floating floors which are poorly laid by DIY owners or inexperienced trades. Commonly the center has buckled up like a mountain in the middle of the floor either due to water absorption after a spill or a leak or more commonly because the correct spacing around the outside was not done. Other times the door jamb treatment has not been done correctly using the specialised power-tools and most common the edge trim has come loose or has been attached to the floating floor instead of the walls. Another trap is the underlay. Correct underlay selection is important and absolutely critical to be the approved kind for all Strata Plan work. Otherwise it will need to be pulled up and done all over again with the correct underlay. Handy Work know all the tricks to ensure it is done properly.

Vinyl Flooring
Previously known as linoleum (actually an earlier variant of today’s vinyl floor coverings can be used in many areas including kitchens, laundries, family rooms etc. It is as simple as floating floors to lay but is preferred for areas where spills are likely or where regular mopping is likely. Hence why all hospitals etc use Vinyl flooring. There are a variety of patterns available including timber grain look, checkered patterns etc and except for very large rooms there are normally no joins.

Tiling
Tiling is typically well understood as it is common in bathrooms etc. In the photo below, the client initially specified the vinyl floor above but because it was an old home with this bathroom constructed in the 1950’s with a thin concrete floor, over a period of a year or two the leaching water caused water damage to the vinyl and the client called Handy Work back to lay a tiled floor to ensue a longer life.
